It's Escalante time!

Well, the water has finally arrived in the Escalante River. After a long wait Jeff, Dave, Eric and myself will head out early tomorrow morning for this run. I've heard that the chanel is very narrow in some spots so I'm not sure what types of boats we will take but it ought to be one hell of an adventure. Check out www.hitthepipe.com in a week's time for pictures and a write up, see you then!

Show me your papers, comrade!

Well, it's finally arrived, the national ID card is here! The US takes another small step towards a totalitarian police state with this one. As usual, the press is out to lunch, more concerned about Michael Jackson than the slow, steady, castration of our civil liberties. At times like these, we should all remember the words of Rev. Martin Neimoller:

First they came for the Communists,
and I didn’t speak up,
because I wasn’t a Communist.
Then they came for the Jews,
and I didn’t speak up,
because I wasn’t a Jew.
Then they came for the Catholics,
and I didn’t speak up,
because I was a Protestant.
Then they came for me,
and by that time there was no one
left to speak up for me.

Write your People's Deputes Congressmen and let them know that you're not afraid to SPEAK UP!

The Poudre is finally flowing!

After a long wait this spring, there in now enough water (barely) to run the Poudre. My friend Travis and I took the Sportscar (my 11' cat) up to the Poudre and ran Bridges twice yesterday afternoon. We scraped more than a few rocks but made it through, with rain today and higher temperatures heading into the weekend, I'm hopeful that the fun will begin in earnest soon...
